The Centre
The Centre is a large house located on three acres of
wooded land in rural Bath Township. It is near Lansing, East
Lansing, Haslett and Okemos, three quarter hour from Jackson, about an
hour from Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids, one and a half hours from
Detroit and four hours from Chicago. There are 3 guest bedrooms with
one
or two single beds, and a Suite (with attached bathroom with
bathtub) which has one to four single beds in it. We have one other
room and a screened porch that can be bedrooms as needed. A king bed
may be possible, please ask. The Centre can accommodate
up
to twelve (12) guests.
There are three shared bathrooms with shower or tub/shower, in addition
to the one in the Suite. See
pictures of rooms.
The
lower level is handicap accessible,
including the entrance,
Meditation room,
two of the
bedrooms and a bathroom with a roll-in shower. There is not currently a
means to bring wheelchairs upstairs to the Living/Dining room, so meals
would be brought on a tray to the lower level.
Meals are
delicious vegetarian, complete and balanced, and tailored to
the needs of the course being
held or for the type of retreat. Breakfast is an assortment of cereals,
fruit, bread, yogurt, milk and juice which you may help yourself to,
and is included in the room charge. Dinner includes dessert. On Sundays
the lunch and dinner are usually lighter, but satisfying.
** We need to inform you
that:
Our
homecooked meals are prepared with Love in our family kitchen,
which is not regulated and inspected by the Clinton County Health
department. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.
More about the
Centre
Indoor features
The
Living/Dining area is available for you to read and relax, and has a
tea kettle, teas, mugs, glasses and water out at all times for you to
help yourself. A selection of spiritual books is there for you to read
while you are here and leave for others to enjoy. Birdfeeders
are just outside. There is a
three-season room which is a comfortable sitting area much of the year.
The Meditation room is available for silent prayer and meditation:
everyone of all faiths, meditation practices and traditions is
welcome.
Our Cats

We
have two delightful young cats, Maggie (the calico) and Coulton (the
black/grey/white tiger stripe) who enjoy greeting people on arrival and
playing in the garden. They have a cat door to the non-guest area of
the Centre and do not spend any time in the
guest areas, so
everyone with allergies may stay in comfort. We just ask your help ~
please don't let them follow you in.
Outdoor features
There is a
pond
with fountain, fish and frogs in the front yard. Overlooking this is a
front
porch with
swing chair. There are lounge chairs available for you to use on the
porch or the lawn. The property to the east is a 25 acre
Township Park with rustic
walking trails,
and the property to the north is undeveloped. Within a half-mile walk
is a 4,000 acre State Wildlife Research area with rustic walking
trails. The
Michigan Wildlife Conservancy Conference center (The Bengel Center) is
a mile down the road, and is also a pleasant place to walk.
Eco-friendly features
- The Centre is located out of town in a
wooded area, so most of the summer the trees provide natural air conditioning. For any hot and humid stretches, our new Energy Star air conditioner keeps the rooms dry, cool and comfortable. There are ceiling fans
in the bedrooms, and secure windows that you may adjust
to your liking. The super efficient furnace blower brings in outside
air,
so the air is changed often and remains fresh year round.
This helps us to be at our best.
- We recycle
all matierials that are accepted in our area and have received a Green
Star Award from the Meridian Commercial Recycling Group.
- We compost
uncooked food waste - with vegetarian food this is easy.
- As this is a
rural property, without concrete paving, there is no issue of runoff to
storm drains. The mowed area of the property is small - most of it is
undeveloped woods - and we use a hand-push or electric mower on the
small lawn. The
driveway and parking areas are gravel and require little maintenance.
- We use fluorescent or compact fluorescent light bulbs in
lamps
which are on for long periods. Heat, water heating and cooking are
by propane.
